This work was created during a Residency period at Cemeti Art House in Indonesia. It is a reaction to the call for prayer that sweeps the city of Yogyakarta, 5 times a day.
A TV shows a man, seated and apparently waiting. His face is not visible. When the nearest mosque sounds its call, interactively he stands and starts to conduct. Till the call has ended he takes a seat again. The question is: Who is conducting whom? Is man’s belief conducting “God,” or is there really a God conducting man?
